Piercing aftercare - what you need to know

How do I clean my new piercing?

Clean twice daily with a sterile saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride). Spray directly onto the piercing and allow to air dry - avoid cotton wool which can snag. Don't rotate or twist the jewellery.

How long does a piercing take to heal?

It varies by placement. Earlobes typically heal in 6-8 weeks. Cartilage piercings can take 6-12 months. Body piercings vary widely. Helen will give you a realistic healing timeline at your appointment.

Can I change my jewellery early?

We strongly advise against changing jewellery before a piercing is fully healed - even if it looks healed on the outside. Come back to see Helen for a downsize or jewellery change and she'll check over the piercing site.

What should I avoid?

Swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas and the sea during early healing. Avoid touching your piercing with unwashed hands, sleeping on it without a travel pillow, and using alcohol, tea tree oil, or antiseptic creams - these do more harm than good.
